CH5517 – Advanced Physical Inorganic Chemistry

Lecturers:

Dr B. E. Bode*

*Module Convenor

Aims:

To discuss inorganic ‘open shell’ compounds, including synthesis, characterisation and applications of paramagnetic inorganic species.  A number of examples including advanced electron paramagnetic resonance applications in homogeneous catalysis, bioinorganic chemistry and biophysics will be discussed.

Covers the analysis of inorganic compounds and bioinorganic systems by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy including the use of inorganic spin labels. This includes EPR instrumentation, EPR theory, data acquisition and interpretation and the introduction of pulse EPR methods.
